Time for a change?

It was around this time last year my husband was offered a new job. It was a fantastic opportunity, but it was also 1776 kilometres from where we lived. Not only did we have to pack up the house we’d settled well into, but I also had to leave behind a job I loved, and people I loved. Some of those people were part of my writing community, and I felt like we’d just found each other.

But it was also the writing community that made the move that little bit easier. Through social media and being a member of Romance Writers of Australia, and even through attending events such as GenreCon, I’d made friends in far reaching places…. including the new destinations I was now headed.

Fast forward to today, and while I’m yet to dig out my Summer clothing (despite it being the second day of Summer!) I can look back at the last six plus months of living in Melbourne feeling rather accomplished. I’ve made new friends, connected with ones I knew down here, and happily stayed in touch with my Brisbane crew while we worked on an anthology together. (If you haven’t already, check out my books page for all my projects). I’ve put myself out there to publishers and while I’ve started some projects, more importantly, I’ve finished some too. And I’ve already got some projects on the go for 2024… but more about those another time.

The life of a writer is often uncertain. Will a publisher be interested in my work? Will a reader want to read it? Will I ever finish writing this story? One thing is for certain. My writing community will there for me, no matter where I am in the journey, or location.
